ITYM Saturday. I don't think I'm allowed out that weekend as Sue has
plans to do something exciting herself. The Taste of the Test 202 looks
tempting, but I'm planning to ride that as a permanent some time this
year.

Doh! Yes I do. For some inexplicable reason my fingers typed 'Sunday'.

We're not fit enough for the 202, or even the 160, at the moment so
we'll ride the 104 this time.

Whichever you do, have a great ride.

Pamber Heath (Hampshire) Audax events yesterday
We rode the 104km yesterday as planned. The wind was a bit brisk and
chilly as we left Pamber Heath, but the sun had come out by the time we
crossed Watership Down and rode down to Whitchurch.

There was a nice selection of cakes when we got to the Houghton control
just before 12. We were pleased to cover the first 50km in less than
three hours.

I was a bit surprised that the only info-control of the event was just
2km after the 50km control. The route through King's Somborne was very
pleasant until we crossed the A34 near Worthy Down. We were riding along
an unclassified road which runs parallel to the A34, but looks as though
it was once the trunk road. The behaviour of the traffic was more like
that on an A road and we were pleased to turn off it again towards Wonston.

We had a rain shower around there (at about 70km) and shortly afterwards
my wife had a puncture. When we restarted we couldn't quite resume our
earlier pace, we had another rain shower which dampened our spirits a
bit, and the climb up to Hannington seemed to go on for ages. Descending
from Hannington we encountered the A339 for a busy and bad-tempered 300
metres before turning off right to head for Baughurst.

From there it was an easy run back to Pamber Heath and more tea and
cake. We finished soon after 3:40, and our legs felt as though we could
have done a bit more.

All in all a good day out.
